From midnight to ink to navy to baby to sky, blue was a prominent color in menswear collections this spring. The color showed up at Ermenegildo Zegna, Dries Van Noten, Carven and Hermes looking fresh and manly in stripes and even florals. And why not? We’ve always loved men in blue, whether they’re wearing a badge or swinging a bat (go Dodgers!); it works for very nearly every skin tone, hair or eye color and acts as a neutral (depending on the shade) with black, other blues, tan, gray, red, white … you name it.

PARA EL TRABAJO

I am an unabashed fan of a man in a suit. Whether it’s a banker-conservative navy jacket and pants with contrasting pocket square or a more creative bright blue jacket and neutral slacks, a suit says a man means business, no matter what his job is. These days, the suit is tailored trim and looks extra chic with brown shoes.

EL FIN DE SEMANA

Go beyond jeans and work the athletic aesthetic that popped up in men’s and women’s collections for spring. Show off those hours at the gym in a slouchy pair of slim-cut sweats and a lighweight blazer layered over a hoodie and a button-down. Or opt for close-fitting white jeans topped by a puffer vest (trend alert: puffer vests and jackets littered men’s and women’s runways), a plaid shirt and a jean jacket.

SALIDA ROMÁNTICA

This is Southern California – “dressy casual” was born here, and what works for daytime works (with a little tweaking) for a night on the town. Work blue with a premium denim jean, lively print shirt in shades of blue layered under a sweater and a cool leather jacket; or wear dark chinos with a graphic print T, blue striped shirt and fitted blazer.
